about

Isla presents a concoction of sounds, rhythms and melodies paying tribute to Malta’s folklorists and folk poets with archive interviews of Ġuze Cassar Pullicino and Frans Baldacchino “Il-Budaj”. They talk of the blending of song and poetry as well as the the various trends in Malta which have led to the marginalisation of għana as the traditional singing form.

*etnika malta

An unlikely mix of artists, characters and instruments, *etnika's sound layers enchanting melancholy with traditional tunes & lyrics over effected guitars, retro-futuristic synths, unconventional percussion and footwork, deep, groovy bass, raspy sax, haunting whispery vocals and old Maltese instruments.

Expect a few detours, expect the unexpected, this 'tripfolk' band has a big heart.
